The United States and China have agreed on recommendations for more favourable tariff treatment for $30 billion worth of non-sensitive goods in each direction, the White House said, following a three-day summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump in Washington last week.
US exports covered by the understanding include agricultural products, seafood, wood products and cosmetics, while US imports from China include consumer goods such as small appliances, toys and holiday decorations.
The consensus was reached under the US-China Board of Trade, which the two countries chartered at their May 2026 summit in Beijing and have now made operational.
The two sides also agreed to launch a dialogue on the risks and benefits of advanced artificial intelligence, with the next round expected by November, and to set up a channel for communicating about AI-related incidents.
