India and Pakistan agreed on Saturday, May 10, to stop all firing and military action on land, in the air and at sea from 5 pm IST. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations had called his Indian counterpart at 3:35 pm.
The conflict followed the April 22 terror attack at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 25 Indian tourists and one Nepali national.
In response, India launched Operation Sindoor between 1:05 am and 1:30 am on May 7, striking nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Col Sofiya Qureshi and Wg Cdr Vyomika Singh briefed the nation on the strikes.
Pakistan answered with waves of drones and missiles, putting Punjab on the front line. Blackouts were imposed in cities including Ferozepur, Amritsar and Pathankot, and the Army shot down Pakistani drones over Amritsar.
Hours after the ceasefire was announced, drones were reported again in several places and India said Pakistan had violated the understanding. The two DGMOs are due to talk again on May 12.
