Punjabi-origin MP Satvir Kaur appointed UK Minister for Equalities

Satvir Kaur, the Labour MP for Southampton Test and the daughter of Punjabi parents, has been appointed a minister in the UK government.

According to UK Parliament records, she was appointed on July 22, 2026, jointly as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Minister for Equalities) in the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and as a Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Home Office.

Kaur has represented Southampton Test since July 2024, when she was first elected to Parliament.

In the same reshuffle of Prime Minister Andy Burnham's government, Huddersfield MP Harpreet Uppal was appointed an Assistant Whip.
