The Congress has appointed former Rajasthan deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot as the All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge of Punjab.
Pilot replaces Bhupesh Baghel, who has been given charge of Assam. The appointment was made through an order issued on September 6 by AICC general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal, as part of a wider organisational reshuffle.
The change comes ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. Several senior Punjab Congress leaders, including former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, have welcomed the appointment.
Since taking charge, Pilot has been in regular touch with district chiefs and has been taking feedback from party leaders. Leaders are awaiting clarity on the restructuring of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, while the party is preparing to launch a statewide programme in the coming days.
