The Aam Aadmi Party has held on to the Ludhiana West Assembly seat. In results declared on Monday, June 23, AAP candidate and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora won by 10,637 votes.
Arora polled 35,179 votes. Former Congress minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu came second with 24,542, and BJP's Jiwan Gupta was third with 20,323.
The bypoll was held for the seat left vacant by the death of AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi in January.
Political observers see the result as a morale boost for AAP ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, and another setback for the Congress in an urban seat.
AAP workers celebrated in Ludhiana after the win, and the party called it the people's endorsement of the government's work.
